Yield: 15 servings
Prep Time: 60 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Tnuva Feta Cheese, crumbled
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup Tnuva Premium Cheese Spread, Original Flavor
- 1 cup Tnuva Edam Cheese Slices, cut into small pieces
- 2 large eggs
- Extra Tnuva Edam Cheese Slices to add on top before rolling
- Filo dough, thawed
- Olive oil, avocado oil or melted butter
Simple Syrup:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
Alternate topping:
- For a savory version, you may skip the simple syrup and top with brushed egg wash and sesame seeds.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Combine cheeses, sour cream and eggs; mix thoroughly.
- Unroll the thawed filo dough and cover with a clean kitchen towel to prevent it from drying out.
- Take one sheet of filo dough, gently spray with oil or melted butter, and smooth it out.
- Fold the dough in an accordion-like manner, then place a spoonful of cheese filling in the center.
- Add an extra slice of Tnuva Edam Cheese and fold the flaps over the filling, rolling the dough to create a decorative design.
- Repeat the process for the remaining dough and place the rolls in a lightly greased baking dish. Spray the top with oil or melted butter.
- Bake the bourekas for about 45 minutes or until golden.
- While baking, prepare the simple syrup: Put the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
- When bourekas are ready, remove from oven and brush with warm syrup. Serve while still warm and enjoy.
