Chalah with Quark Filling

By: Tnuva USA

Prep time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:
For the dough:
2 cups of white flour
1.5 tablespoons of dry yeast
1 egg
1/4 cup of oil
1 1/4 cups of water
1 teaspoon of salt
3 tablespoons of sugar

For the filling:
250 grams of Tnuva Quark Cheese, 5% fat
1 tablespoon grated orange peel or 3 tablespoons chopped dried citrus peel
2 tablespoons sugar

For the first coating:
1 egg whisked
1 tablespoon of milk
1 teaspoon of sugar

For the second coating:
1 teaspoon of grated citrus peel
3 tablespoons of sugar
1/4 cup of water

Instructions:
1. Place the flour, yeast and sugar into a bowl. Crate a small hole in the middle and add the oil, salt, egg and water.
2. Mix well, until you have a smooth dough. Set aside and allow it to rise for 1 hour in a greased, covered bowl.
3. After it’s risen, place the dough on a floured surface and roll out into three long strips.
4. Stir the filling ingredients in a separate bowl.
5. Spread the filling on each flattened strip of dough. Once they are all covered with filling, roll them tightly and pinch the tops so the filling doesn’t ooze out.
6. Bring the three strips together by pinching them, and then braid the strips until you get a challah shape.
7. Place on a lined baking sheet. Whisk an egg and milk together in a separate bowl.
8. Allow the challah to rise for 20 minutes.
9. Preheat the oven to 350 ⁰F. Bake the challah in the oven for about 20 minutes before applying the second coating.
10. In the meantime, prepare the second coating: in a small saucepan, cook the all of the ingredients together until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat.
11. Brush the challah with the second coating and place the challah back in the oven. Bake for another 10 minutes.
