Greek Cheese Bourekas

Yield: 12 servings

Prep Time: 70 minutes

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons olive oil
3 Spanish onions, sliced
2 onions, sliced
1 container Tnuva Feta Sheep’s Cheese
1 container Tnuva Feta Cow’s Milk Cheese
1 package Tnuva Edam Cheese Slices, cut into small pieces
3 eggs
4 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
3 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
1 package Tnuva Maadanot Frozen Rolled Turkish Phyllo Dough for Sweet and Savory Pastries
Beaten egg for brushing

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and add the onion slices. Saute until browned. Transfer to a large bowl.
3. Grate the Feta cheeses over the same bowl, then add the rest of the filling ingredients and mix well.
4. Slice the thawed dough in half. Place on a baking pan. Cover the dough with the filling, and cover with the second half.
5. Transfer to the freezer for 10 minutes. Remove from the freezer and using a sharp knife, cut through the layers in a “dotted line” to form squares.
6. Bake for 25 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove from the oven and using a sharp knife, slice through the indentations, to the bottom. Return to the oven for another 10 minutes.
