Prep time: 20 minutes

Serves: 8

Ingredients:

5 green apples, peeled, without the core and cut into cubes
0.25 cup water
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
0.25 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pack of Tnuva’s Frozen Puff Pastry Dough for Sweet and Savory Pastries
1 egg, beaten
Powdered sugar, for serving

Instructions:

1. To make the apple puree place the apple cubes with the water, sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon into a medium saucepan. Stir and bring the mixture to a gentle boil while stirring alternately. Cover the pot then lower the heat to a low flame and cook until the apples have softened, for about 10-15 minutes. Using a fork, mash the apples into a puree. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate (the puree can be prepared up to two days in advance).
2. Preheat oven to 390 degrees and line a pan with baking paper.
3. Roll the thawed dough into a flat sheet onto the work surface and divide the dough into 10 cm squares.
4. Place a heaping tablespoon of the cold apple puree in the center of each square. Brush the edges of the dough with the beaten egg and fold into a triangle. With your fingertips, tighten the edges of the dough so that the filling does not run out during baking. Carefully transfer to the baking pan and repeat the process with the rest of the dough squares and apple puree.
5. Brush the surface of the triangles with more beaten egg and dust with powdered sugar. Using a sharp knife, make 3 small grooves in each triangle to allow the steam to release during baking.
6. Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes. Lower the oven temperature to 347 degrees and bake until golden, for about 10-15 minutes. Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Serve hot or at room temperature.
